Ha. ha. That anon did inspire in me a sudden desire to re-read those early bits of The Magician’s Nephew too. this is really meant to be a tolkien-only blog with the exception of occasional tangential or off-topic low-info reblogs but djhfdjvelkjf whatever. I guess…..Narnia counts as tangential to Tolkien right?

   I remember I liked it when I was a child, but I don’t remember half
of books. Like I don’t remember The Horse and his boys at all , but I
don’t want to re-read it because I know it would annoy me to the extend.
I really hate when authors write down their political/religious views

there I, even now, remember things that really annoys me. Like Susan

things that was too simple/ told straigth-away for me even when I was in

Y E P. When a 9 year old is going ‘ugh yes I get it’ you know you’re being too heavy handed with your allegories. Or just, maybe your allegory is too boring!! Or you’re railroading its intended conclusion too hard! I was never bothered by like, The Little Prince? Gaaahhhhhh. Also I guess like, Lewis is too good a writer to actually make his allegorical stuff superfluous to the books, so it’s next to impossible to just gloss over them, but at the same time they’re not integrated well enough for, like, The Last Battle to not come off as 100% cheating.

Anyway, this sounds better than my situation, which is that I have re-read
them so much I remember almost every scene perfectly and sometimes I
will read something regarding fantasy or sci-fi or fairy tales that will
remind me of how annoying it was, or how much fun it was, OR BOTH AT
THE EXACT SAME TIME. >_<
