I did nothing but run away from the time I was a puppy, and I kept on running and roving until one fine morning – a very fine morning, with the sun in my eyes – I fell over the world’s edge chasing a butterfly.

My final project from my Digital Illustration class last spring was
inspired by the book “Roverandom” by J.R.R. Tolkien! I created this
vector in Adobe Illustrator to be reminiscent of vintage travel posters.

what is roverandom? is it like, dog fantasy? I’m asking you instead of googling it because I think your answer will be more fun

I THINK it’s like……..a revision of a story Jirt made up to tell one of his kids way back like, before he wrote The Hobbit. It’s basically about this dog who gets lost and turned into a toy and then runs into a wizard and a whole bunch of other magic shit and goes on adventures to the moon and the bottom of the sea and stuff. It’s really rambling and has this aesthetic reminiscent of A Multiple Evenings-Long Bedtime Story Told By Some Dad Trying To Stall Long Enough To Make Up The Next Plot Point that is REALLY strong. It’s right here but fair warning it’s really way too long and ridiculously paced. But otoh it has Moon Spiders and disapproving mermaids and really dumbass wizards getting married and a random swim-by of Valinor and a Man in the Moon and it’s really fun and funny if you like that flavor of crack.
