MELIAN
There is a sexual aspect to her relationships with those she chooses to instruct in the art of enchantment—Melian gladly shares her secret knowledge, but rarely, and only with women. Sex with Melian goes much further than physical pleasure, expanding her partners’ minds to rhythms and powers beyond the physical sphere, which are necessary to understand Melian’s secret arts.
Also, it’s fun for everyone involved. Melian is the toppiest top who ever topped, and she would be the absolute most annoying kind of philosophical bondage enthusiast if she didn’t have eternal, supernatural experience and perspective. She is always loving and attentive and eager to share what knowledge she can with her partners, who, while immortal, are not eternally tied to the music of the universe in the same way that she is. Everything she does reflects her love for the children of Ilúvatar and her eagerness to show them a fraction of what she sees.
Thingol, on the other hand, is special. Melian’s relationship with her protégés is about opening a window for them into her perception as a Maia, but with Thingol, she learns about inhabiting a body, being a partner and a mother, and experiencing flesh like one of the elves.
will someone plz destroy this surreal mirror-universe idea that keeps popping up that rivendell is a stuffy and formal and ostentatious and intimidating and stressful museum where you are afraid to touch anything full of dull prissy bores who don’t know anything about other cultures and are scandalized at anything improper or unusual:
“Weariness fell from him soon in that house, and he had many a merry
jest and dance, early and late, with the elves of the valley.”“In all the days of the Third Age, after the fall of Gil-galad, Master
Elrond abode in Imladris, and he gathered there many Elves, and other
folk of wisdom and power from among all the kindreds of Middle-earth,
and he preserved through many lives of Men the memory of all that had
been fair; and the house of Elrond was a refuge for the weary and the
oppressed…”“His house was perfect whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or
story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a
pleasant mixture of them all. Evil things did not come into that
valley.”“It’s a big house this, and very peculiar. Always a bit more to
discover, and no knowing what you’ll find round a corner. And Elves,
sir! Elves here, and Elves there! Some like kings, terrible and
splendid; and some as merry as children. And the music and the
singing…”
I’m super pleased this very correct post got a bunch of notes but I just realized I can’t believe I left out the most important bit:
[Bilbo] took from the box a small sword in an old shabby leathern scabbard. Then
he drew it, and its polished and well-tended blade glittered suddenly, cold and
bright. ‘This is Sting,’ he said, and thrust it with little effort deep into a
wooden beam. `Take it, if you like. I shan’t want it again, I expect.’
