Nerdanel + Silmarils

sdugkhfsd *cough* um. have you. read this fic. by any chance…

Anyway, I headcanon that firstly, she isn’t like jealous or suspicious of their effect on Feanor. She’s an elf artist herself, she knows the feeling of how a work of art you created can affect you, how much it can mean to you and the depth of the reasons why, how it can become a part of you, or how a part of you can go into it.

Later during the First Age, after Feanor has left, and after she realizes Feanor has died, I think she would resent the thought of them much more, but doesn’t resent or blame them for his actions. Those actions are on him, she thinks. Still she knows that at least their making, and his awareness of possessing them, played a strong role in concentrating and focusing his issues and his actions; she knows that if he decided to swear an oath to retrieve them, they must mean something to him that goes very deep down, and is very significant, and she tries, on several occasions, to throw herself into her work, and pour her soul into her creations, in such a way so as to attempt to feel what he might have felt, and understand why he felt those things, and did those things, until probably Indis convinces her to stop.

And I think, even later, when Earendil and Vingilot take to the sky with one silmaril as Gil-Estel, and when she hears what happened at the last to Maedhros and Maglor with the remaining two, she wishes, in a weird way, that Beren, and then Earendil, had managed to get all three – even though she isn’t completely sure that the small amount of relief and/or mercy and/or plausible deniability granted through this excuse to abandon the oath would have been enough to change things for her sons.

Happy weekend! Here’s some hella punk Nerdanel.

Re: elves and tattoos, my headcanon is that it’s not super common, but students of Aulë can be pretty avid about their tattoos, regardless of race. The tengwar on her left knuckles are the initials of her first four kids (the others are on her other hand but facing the opposite direction). The letter on her neck is her initial N, and the tengwar on her right arm spell AULE. She’s also got the Two Trees, some roses, the star of the house of Fëanor, some cool designs, some hammers, and seven diamonds representing her kids. Plus probably some more you can’t see here.

Basically what I’m saying is HELLA PUNK NERDANEL and ELVES WITH TATTOOS

Day 7 of Feanorianweek.

Prompt: (pre-) marriage

“Fëanáro, what are you doing?!”

“Tracing constellations”

“it t-tickles!”

“does it?”

“ye-hahaha-ees!”

Phew, what a week. Finishing off with my second Silmarillion OTP and then I’m probably never trying to make prompted art for an entire week ever again.
