   Oh the House of Night series is a pretty bad YA vampire series but
you’d do better looking up for reviews for why it was bad bc 1) I didn’t
read the whole thing 2) I was apparently so busy rolling my eyes at the
overblown chosen one narrative that I didn’t even notice the
slut-shaming

   Oh fucking. KILN PEOPLE BY DAVID BRIN. The mc gets a literal chance
to be a God in the end but turns it down bc “being able to be humorous
is more important”. Somehow??? I don’t even. Also souls explicitly stop
existing after death but everyone who worries about that in the book is
coded as Foolish.    

JHGDJHJH i have seen some Incredibly false dichotomies in religious hot takes in my time, but “god vs funny” has got to take the cake for nuttiest yet

   antirec for Lover Unbound, the vampire novel I found in an airbnb
last week. It is about a vampire called Vishous who is ‘as smart as a
matched pair of Einsteins’ because he makes video games, and his vampire
friends Phury, Rhage and Zsadist, and it comes with a glossary full of
words like ‘ahvenge’ (it’s…revenge but vampires) and also vampires go
into heat    

….holy shit how did you stand to read enough of this book to gather this much info about it

   Hmmm the “Temeraire” books (I loved the concept and the first book
but then it seemed like the author was making it up as she went)    

I have never heard of these! But apparently dragons?

   An anti-rec without dragons in it: “The Sight” which I loved in
middle school and is about wolves, complete with very bad alpha/beta
pack dynamics    

I have never heard of this either but i have immediately put together half a book’s worth of plot based on this short blurb

So I know I’m SUPER BIASED and all that, since I am in love with this fic’s author and her whole brain, but I had a great need to reiterate my complete love for this incredibly kind, exploring, softly wondering character study. The sincerity and imagination in writing the POV of someone suddenly bestowed with a perfect memory – the little twists and observations twined all throughout – is the best I’ve ever seen. The gentle elation and hyperawareness of the specific Elf-ness of Elves, the experience of becoming a type of being that you technically were not before, but also was always right for you, never so much as wavers in its fidelity of perspective, even as the subject matter expands thoughtfully to the state of the world at this snapshot in time. Srsly you all should read.

I had seen that pic of ur cute smiles before , but not that beautiful dog! :O

she was the most beautiful dog! she was an extraordinarily stubborn sheltie who whenever we took her to the beach, would run up and down its length importantly barking at the waves convinced that her Mad Herding Dog Skillz was the only thing keeping the waves from flooding out indefinitely, and would often affect a snooty unconcerned air apparently to try to make us thing she wasn’t interested even though she was wagging her tail really hard, and would sneeze like 15 times in a row when she got rly excited…..she was Good…. 😦

“Opened a book once” = BOOK NERD. “Mentioned next to a flower once” = AVID GARDENER. “Was sad once” = ALWAYS SAD ALL THE TIME.

But it’s so much MORE befuddling when there’s like 28 major explicit canon scenes/descriptions/details/contextual dynamics that are THE EXACT OPPOSITE of that and like 1 ambiguous thing that might have been a dubious detail in support of that characterization IF AND ONLY IF they were a character with no other distinguishing features whatsoever. Also i’ve gotta say this fetish for this 1 specific type of character – the super insecure people-pleasing doormat stuttery….thing – is imo something that goes far above and beyond the generalized sledgehammery fanon thing.

God what headcanons have I NOT told you. Um. I’ll just repeat the one I mentioned to you privately….I haven’t checked it against canon properly and can’t rn, but:

i sort of started vaguely outlining a mini-fic about it actually but mostly i figure….multi-stage debate built on a ton of future events that pharazon never imagined or could have foreseen….sort of like, on some level, he was also vaguely apologized to on behalf of his ancestors who didn’t get enough of an explanation – i.e., centered around that quote from the Akallabeth: 

“The love of Arda was set in your hearts by Ilúvatar, and he does not plant to no purpose. Nonetheless, many ages of Men unborn may pass ere that purpose is made known; and to you it will be revealed and not to the Valar.”

and kind of like…..ok, compromise, you can be in suspended animation so that you can still be alive and in the world when what answers you seek will be revealed to Men….and get to meet the ancestors whom you hold up as proof of your deserving to see aman…..etc

sailor… moon?

UUUUHHHH

sailor moon is a really lousy-student high school girl who also has DUPERPOWERS and there are Whacky Secret Identity Hijinks

She’s like….secretly a moon goddess but doesn’t know it, or something? Her long pigtails are amazeballs and filled with secrets

She has a team of other girls called Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Mars, etc. One (some? all?) of them is really gay for her

She’s also got a romance arc with some cool-looking but trainwreck(?) dude named Tuxedo Mask who idk if he is a hero or villain or neither but he has some Batman-vanishing-suddenly thing and a long black dread pirate roberts type costume

LONG MAGICAL GIRL TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCES

I think it was to the magical girl genre as dragon ball z was to shonen?

Meaning that it takes 6 episodes to cover a five minute in-universe period, but with more gasping and hair swirling instead of screaming and vein-popping

There are a number of episodes about ~goofy high school romcom stuff~ and in one of them the dub took a storyline that totally revolved around tits and dubbed it without ever mentioning tits once

There’s also this really long arc about sailor moon’s archenemesis supervillainess named um something

Sailor Uranus is really Good and also I think the gayest one?

Some of the animation looks really good!

The reboot either sucks or is awesome for getting rid of all the filler
