Theory: Feanor is actually a time-travelling hobbit from the Shire who only pretended to be an elf.
“Behold!” said the mightiest of the Noldor, and a hush fell upon the court of Tirion upon Túna at the force of his words. “My labours have been long but my accomplishments have been great, and Valinor shall shine brighter for the mighty gift I bestow upon it.”
King Finwë leant forwards upon his throne while his queen pressed one jewel-draped hand to her breast. The courtiers, be their allegiance to the elder prince or the younger, all were silent, and it was said after that even Manwë’s breezes stilled a moment. His brothers knew not what to do, and fear and joy warred upon their faces.
“I shall strengthen the Noldor, beyond the Valar’s design, succour them and give them joy beyond all measure.”
Fëanor smiled, and it was wild and fell, and the triumph of creation burned within him like a brand.
“I have invented second breakfast.”
what was your headcanon about elros’s death you just mentioned? 👀👀👀
Oooh I was just hoping you’d read my tags!
Short version: Elrond leaves a window open and Earendil slows in his path to witness his son’s passing.
Long version (more like a short fanfic plot I don’t dare write yet):
Elrond is visiting Numenor because he knows it’s happening soon. But since nobody can tell exactly when (first natural Peredhel death and all), Elrond being Elrond he’s keeping himself busy and not just sitting by Elros’ bed the whole time (though he is there often, of course).
Specifically, he’s teaching astronomy to some children when one kid calls him over because a star is off course. When Elrond asks them which star, the kid points straight at Earendil (up to you whether this one kid just hasn’t yet quite grasped the whole “the star Earendil is literally the King’s dad in a magic sky boat” thing or if after 500 years people in general are getting more used to treating him like a regular astronomical object and sort of forget the truth until they stop to think about it.)
Elrond has two seconds of “huh, so he is… that’s unusual for dad” before he gets it.
He runs to Elros’ bedchamber (waving away some person sent to fetch and who is a little confused at their errand being useless, but not too much), makes sure there is a little time and immediately opens the window and has the bed turned to face it (nobody present questions him because they’re well used to half-elven weirdness).
Only when the Silmaril light shines in Elros’ face does Elrond finally sit by him to say his final farewell.

The Emperor of Arion is dead.
That sounds like a good thing on the surface; no more threats, no more assassins and intergalactic war. Wally is the new Emperor and Mack is finally free of freakiness to focus on his baseball and his drama club and his college applications.
This is the worst thing that could have happened to them both.
A birthday present for my dearest @imindhowwelayinjune who I love so much more than drugs. This is Wally & Mack fic and I know the fandom has strong opinions but I don’t want anyone being awful in the comments like they were on the last one I posted.

Her husband’s people insisted on referring to it as her true form, but it wasn’t. She didn’t – she wasn’t like Tulkas or Oromë or the matter-shaping maiar of Aulë, to need a body to realise her part in the song of Ëa. She was- was the quality of sound that made it music rather than noise, harmony rather than discord. Her nature held no inherent physicality, but she would, in the springtime of the world, wear a shape to better hear the nightingales sing.
It was not her true form, the shape her husband had first found her in, but it was her most comfortable body, if she chose one, the assemblage of the world around her naked spirit that was easiest to put on. Elu had loved her in it at once.
His people were afraid of it.
I never actually completely finished reading the fic in question bc a lot of it is sort of…boring….and also I have v mixed feelings about this author’s interpretation of these characters when it comes to certain issues in other of their fics i’ve looked at, but I’m glad they gave me the most perfect elrond scene i think i have ever read in someone else’s fanfic. Under the cut, from More Than Memory, by AfterEver:
“I hear you,” said Elrond gravely. “This then is my charge: that for
the kinship we share, you shall regard my home as your own, and that so
long as you abide here, it is not without joy for you.”Gilraen
looked up, incredulous. His eyes, keen as starlight, did not waver, and
she found herself grappling for the courage to oppose him, to insist.“A
warning, good lady, for I have battled and won this same challenge
since millennia past –- but strive with me if you will,” said the
ancient voice, and Gilraen heard laughter bubbling under the words, as a
river that churns even beneath ice. She could not but smile. “Arise! In
later days, we will meet again to discuss matters of import. Now, see
to your own comfort, and that of your son.” As Gilraen stood, Elrond
passed a hand over her eyes. “Be in peace,” he said, and inexplicably,
she was.Elrond moved then as if to return to his seat. Blinking
out of her reflection, Gilraen realized where she yet stood, realizing
next what she looked at.Glorfindel stood within view, his smile
broad and knowing. Motionless, Elrond faced the dais, head atilt and
expression unknowable as he watched the child sitting contentedly upon
his chair.Aragorn’s heels barely reached the edge of the seat,
though his legs were fully stretched, and with arms extended he could
just touch his hands to the armrests, where they held on more than
rested. His pride in himself was obvious, just as his delight to have
everyone’s attention. This appeared to be his favorite seat in the
chamber –- and he had sampled them all. Looking to Elrond, he smiled,
innocent and sincere.Thinking to fetch her son, Gilraen went
forward, but dared venture no further than the foot of the dais’ stairs.
Suddenly Glorfindel laughed. “The child fancies himself a ruler, I
think.”Elrond flinched as if startled. Gilraen saw his eyes
widen. Each step separated by a longer pause, he ascended the stairs,
and after a pause longest of all, Elrond knelt before his own throne.

It was the queen who brought Malbeth to court, for it was the queen who rode out among the people to offer her charity during the summer sickness, and there she saw the woman with the light of knowledge in her eyes. The king, busy with war, sighed and thought nothing of it after granting his pregnant wife’s wish.
Queen Erebel took Malbeth, who was young yet—not yet forty—, and elevated her above all others in her service, granting her great favor. Malbeth granted the queen such wisdom as soothed her troubled spirits.
When the queen’s son was born, the queen summoned Malbeth to bless her child in sight of the king, but when the seeing-stone was in hand, Malbeth said,
“Arvedui you shall call him, for he will be the last in Arthedain. Though a choice will come to the Dúnedain, and if they take the one that seems less hopeful, then your son will change his name and become king of a great realm. If not, then much sorrow and many lives of men shall pass, until the Dúnedain arise and are united again.”
The king at last saw the wisdom of his wife’s choice, and he took Malbeth the Seer into his service and under his wing.

LLA 2018 prompt: “abstracts” — Malbeth the Seer, foresight/wisdom
WAIT I FIGURED ONE OUT. One of your Tindomiel posts inspired me: do you have ideas about Elros’s wife? (Imo one of the most wtf occurrences of unnamed women.) As a person, founding queen, wife, mother, sister-in-law, or whatever, any of the facets.
I agree! It is definitely one of the most ????? omissions, and when it comes to Númenórean women, that’s saying a lot.
The actual headcanon is under the cut, but rambling a bit:
I generally prefer to wiggle around canon rather than rejecting the unpleasant aspects of it, so I start with the fact that her absence is baffling. What might have kept her out of the historical record? Even a partial, male-dominated historical record?
Well, one possibility is that she had a normal lifespan, which in the historical view would make her… kind of a blip in Elros’ half a millennium of life. If so, Elros almost certainly married her well after establishing Númenor (SA 32), since their firstborn child was born twenty-nine years later (SA 61). In fact, it’s very possible that she herself was born on Númenor (though in that case, she could have a longer lifespan).
I also tend to assume she wasn’t that politically prominent (more Laura than Hillary, say—not that a US First Lady is like a Queen of Númenor, but you get the idea). I don’t just mean in terms of her own conduct, but her family. We do occasionally hear something when the queen’s family is notable: Almarian’s father was captain of the ships, Erendis’ was a descendant of the lords of the house of Bëor, Inzilbêth was the Lord of Andúnië’s niece. So I’m thinking that her own background was not particularly exceptional.
Another detail I find interesting is her four children’s names. One is clearly named after Elros’ family (Tindómiel, the ‘morning star,’ obviously refers to Eärendil). One seems a vaguer reference to the Edain. But the other two, including the firstborn son, are named for the Valar. Considering that one or both of the other children are connected to Elros, I kind of like the idea that she was the one behind Vardamir and Manwendil. So I’m envisioning her as an intense devotee of the Valar, particularly Elbereth (it is the firstborn named for Elbereth, the third for Manwë).
Also for consideration: her eldest, Vardamir, was a dedicated scholar with zero interest in politics. He took the name Nolimon, something like ‘loremaster.’ That doesn’t necessarily reflect on his mother, but it’s something to consider, particularly given her apparent obscurity.
