“There are times when the ocean is not the ocean-not blue, not even
water, but some violent explosion of energy and danger: ferocity on a
scale only gods can summon. It hurls itself at the island, sending spray
right over the top of the lighthouse, biting pieces off the cliff. And
the sound is a roaring of a beast whose anger knows no limits. Those are
the nights the light is needed most.”
– M. L. Stedman, The Light Between Oceans
“Take this ring, Master… for your labours will be heavy; but it will
support you in the weariness that you have taken upon yourself. For
this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world
that grows chill. But as for me, my heart is with the Sea, and I will dwell by the grey shores until the last ship sails. I will await you.”

“Sucedió entonces que mientras los Valar descansaban de sus trabajos y contemplaban el
crecimiento y el desarrollo de las cosas que habían concebido e iniciado, Manwë ordenó que hubiese una gran fiesta y los Valar y todas sus huestes acudieron a la llamada.”

“Now it came to pass that while the Valar rested from their labours, and watched the growth and unfolding of the things that they had devised and begun, Manwë ordained a great feast; and the Valar and an their host came at his bidding.”

The explanation of my headcanons behind this drawing accidentally a prose. The art piece was for @legendariumladiesapril, prompt: Beginnings, and also accidentally ‘Fanon’ and ‘Abstracts’. I am in fact that slow 😀
Her husband’s people insisted on referring to it as her true form, but it wasn’t. She didn’t – she wasn’t like Tulkas or Oromë or the matter-shaping maiar of Aulë, to need a body to realise her part in the song of Ëa. She was- was the quality of sound that made it music rather than noise, harmony rather than discord. Her nature held no inherent physicality, but she would, in the springtime of the world, wear a shape to better hear the nightingales sing.
It was not her true form, the shape her husband had first found her in, but it was her most comfortable body, if she chose one, the assemblage of the world around her naked spirit that was easiest to put on. Elu had loved her in it at once.
There’s so much excellent meta and analysis produced by this fandom, but it can be hard to find! Not everything gets tagged, and unlike fic posted on ao3, older content on tumblr isn’t exactly easy to browse.
This is intended as a replacement for the long-dead @universityofarda, to make interesting content a little easier to find. I ANTICIPATE YOU MAY HAVE QUESTIONS and have set some answers out in handy FAQ format below:
What sort of content are you planning?
Meta, primarily. So, posts analysing Silmarillion characters, narration, anything like that. It doesn’t all have to be Srs Textual Analysis, just have enough substance to it to be interesting or make you think. No headcanons or fanfic, those are great but not the point of this. I’ll queue up some content to give a flavour.
I’d also like to put together a solid, up-to-date resources page plus a page specifically for new fans – there’s some great resources already out there, but tumblr’s decentralised system can make them hard to find and I think it would be great to have somewhere to point new people going through the “what the fuck are all these quenya names” “why are people using all this content that’s not even in the Silmarillion where do I find it aaaaaa” phase, like we all did at some point.
I’d like to help!
I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. I’m looking for co-mods! I want this to catch a decent spectrum of opinions and interests, so it’s interesting to more people than just me. All you have to do is be active in Silmarillion fandom, commit to reblogging the occasional interesting meta post and use a consistent tagging system when you do it – I’m not expecting the blog to be constantly super active, it shouldn’t be a huge time commitment. Message me if you’re interested!
(Or just reblog and follow, this is going to work better if more people use it!)
But simaethae, all your meta sucks and we don’t get on.
Totally fine. I already have a blog for Things I Personally Like: it’s @simaethae. I’d really appreciate having a few mods with interests I don’t share – unless I’ve literally blocked you, you can assume that I’m ok with you applying.
Is it just for the Silmarillion?
It’s primarily for Silm
fandom. Children of Hurin, LotR and Hobbit book-based content is
fine, and I’d be glad to get one or two mods with more interest in those
specifically – but I’m inclined to say no movieverse, because I don’t
want to get swamped by content for bigger fandoms.
Hey, don’t you keep complaining about how busy you are – ?
Procrastinating on my other commitments is great, thanks!!
It’s closing in on a year and a half since Star Boys was first conceived (messily, sweatily, chaotically) and six months since it was officially completed (painlessly, tidily, with absolutely no lying about how painless and tidy it was.) We are therefore delighted to announce that on MAY 1, 2018 (unless we fuck up), STAR BOYS will be released for your consumption!
What’s Star Boys?
Mack is a varsity athlete with a knack for Shakespeare. Wally is an alien prince pursued across the multiverse by his father’s bounty hunters. They both love to sing. They’re both in deadly peril.
And they’re a runaway primetime success. Nico Martin, in his first Hollywood role, has never been happier than on the set of a high school musical alien drama. He loves playing Mack, his new castmates are a trip, and glossy, superficial LA is the perfect place to hide from the mess and heartache of a breakup with his Brooklyn hipster boyfriend. The perfect distraction is his costar, Matthew Rose: Hollywood prince, locus of media obsession, and Nico’s new friend-with-benefits. He’s talented (that Emmy!), charming (that wit!), and was voted Sexiest Man In America two years running (those abs!). He also makes amazing pancakes, is embarrassingly devoted to his cat, and is all around weird enough for Nico to fall in love with. He says the abs were mostly contouring.
But Matt doesn’t want anything serious. Matt’s in the closet. Matt’s depressed and self-destructive and trolls fandom message boards at three in the morning.
And it gets worse. Mack Mackenzie only does battle with alien invaders, while Nico has to fend off pushy fans and a pushier paparazzi. Mack’s risked his life to save Wally from tentacled monsters and his sun-snuffing space emperor father, but more dangerous by far is Matt’s real dad. Harrison Rose is the agent who makes stars and breaks them and he’s not about to let Nico share Matt’s spotlight, never mind his life.
Nico can have stardom and the show he adores, or he can have the man he loves. Or he can dig his heels in, find for his inner primadonna, and try to take this town for everything it’s got.
Okay, how do I read it?
That’s where it gets exciting. It’s basically choose your own adventure, but with epubs.
Read it as soon as it’s released! The whole thing! Cover to cover – metaphorically speaking. Star Boys will be available to purchase on Amazon for you to devour at your own speed and on your own e-reader, and it will be yours forever and ever. Emily (enrose) read the whole thing in four hours – see if you can beat her record (you won’t).
Read it for free! As soon as Star Boys is released on Amazon we will also be posting one chapter a week on our blog for your reading pleasure. Comment, share, and if you can’t wait another week for the next update, the whole novel will always be available for purchase in digital form. This site will also host all of the extra material we plan on posting, which will always be available for free. All we ask in return is your love, devotion, and the occasional comment.
We’ll keep you updated as the publication date approaches and we’re more than happy to answer any questions you have as well as continuing to post teaser material. You can already read episodes from Season 0 which answers the most important question of all about our heroes after, ‘Will they make it work?’: ‘Why are they like that?‘
