This year is the Year of the Dog 🐶, the eleventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac
This dog is scratching his ear on a 2,500 year old Athenian red-figure cup by the Euergides Painter.
According to the Chinese Zodiac, those born in the Year of the Dog are loyal, honest and just, similar to our canine companions.
One myth claims that the Jade Emperor, or the first god, decided to order the animals of the Zodiac based on the order in which they arrived to a celebration he was hosting. On this occasion, the Monkey, the Rooster and the Dog were in another country helping another god to defeat evil spirits. They arrived late to the party and all at once, so the Jade Emperor went by the order in which they met the aforementioned god in the other country, making the Dog the eleventh guest.
