How’s this for coincidence: @bcauseofreasons requested a translation of Jonah, on the very day that I was scheduled to study Jonah. 😀  I don’t know if this will answer all your questions, but I hope it’s thought provoking.

The word of YHWH came to Jonah ben Amittai, thus: “Get up and go to Nineveh, the big city, and cry out against it — for their bad deeds are rising up before my face.”

Jonah got up and fled from YHWH’s face, to Tarshish. [1]  He went down to Jaffa and found a ship going to Tarshish, paid his fare, and got on to go with them to Tarshish, away from YHWH’s face.

But YHWH, he cast a big wind at the sea, and there was such a big storm on the sea that the ship threatened to shatter.  The sailors were so afraid that they called for help, each to his own god, and they cast the things in the ship into the sea, to lighten it for them.

Meanwhile, Jonah had gone down into the belly of the boat, where he lay down and slept soundly.  The captain approached him and asked him, “Why are you sound asleep?  Get up and cry out to your god!  Maybe the god will notice us, so we won’t perish.”

top five things about new england (it’s fall and im homesick)

SORRY I TOTALLY FORGOT THIS JUNE uhhhh i am also out of new england for the semester and am also homesick for it so:

1. that pale greyish-brown powdery mud that coats everything and then helpfully falls off in piles of dry clay chips once you go inside which all the unpaved roads are made of and which makes carwashing close to useless since 50% of the roads are unpaved

2. “we sell maple syrup and maple syrup accessories”

3. the accessibility of ski lodges within a 2-hour (at maximum) drive from any location

4. frequent democratic federal government representatives despite the frequent republican governors

5. you have to drive a state or two over in order to be truly secure when you indulge any secret bad habits or purchase any embarrassing merchandise because the probability of running into at least 1 person you know and who also is friends with someone who is friends with one of your family members in any given store is >60%

Tuor stood upon the shore, and the sun was like a smoky fire behind the menace of the sky; and it seemed to him that a great wave rose far off and rolled towards the land… Then suddenly as it drew near it curled, and broke, and rushed forward in long arms of foam; but where it had broken there stood dark against the rising storm a living shape of great height and majesty.
